YORK, PA – York College freshman runner
Mandy Parshall (Dover, Pa./Homeschooled) has been
named the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference Co-Rookie-of-the-Year.
Parshall shares the award with Salisbury’s Jennifer
Houghton.
Parshall had a tremendous Capital Athletic Conference championship
meet on April 18. She won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:25.92 as
she won the event by almost two full seconds. Parshall then
completed the middle distance sweep with victory in the 1,500-meter
run as she notched a time of 4:57.39. That mark was over five
second better than the runner-up and was a York College school
record. She was also the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay team that
finished second in the CAC.
Parshall is the first Spartan women’s track and field athlete
to earn the CAC Rookie-of-the-Year award since it’s inception
in 1997.
Parshall got off to a late start for the 2009 track season, as she
was a member of the York College women’s basketball team that
advanced to the NCAA Division III Sweet 16 after their 27-3
season.
She opened her outdoor season with a second place finish in the 800
at the Lebanon Valley Invitational.
Parshall followed that up with wins in the 800 and the 1,500 at the
Goucher Classic. She won the 800 in a time of 2:27.38 while she
posted a time of 5:03.50 in the 1,500.
Parshall and her Spartan teammates conclude the 2009 regular season
with the York College Charity Meet on Saturday, May 2. The meet is
scheduled to begin at 9:00 am at the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness
Center Track.
