York College Dean of Athletics and Recreation Sean Sullivan is
happy to announce that Ryan Weber has been selected as the new
Spartan women’s tennis coach. Weber, a 2007 York College
graduate, replaces Tammy Myers who had led the women’s tennis
program for the previous four years. Myers resigned as her
full-time job conflicted with her ability to coach the
Spartans’ women’s tennis team.
Weber is very familiar with the York College tennis program. He was
a four-year player for the Spartans as he accumulated an overall
singles record of 33-30 playing primarily in the top three slots of
the York lineup. He combined with various teammates to notch a
doubles record of 32-22 as he earned 65 victories for his career.
Weber was a two-year captain for the Spartans, serving as the team
leader during his junior and senior seasons.
Weber began his coaching career in 2006 as he assisted men’s coach Mark Ludwig and Myers in running their respective programs. He was responsible for running team practices with an emphasis on drills designed to improve specific shots. Weber also helped the Spartans improve with shot selection strategies.
Weber brings additional tennis experience from Wisehaven Tennis Center where he has worked in a number of capacities since 2004. He also has served as a teaching pro at various summer camps conducted throughout the York area since 2005.
Sullivan is pleased to have Weber on board.
“We are happy to have Ryan as a part of the coaching staff,” states Sullivan. “He is a hard worker with a love for the game. He is also an outstanding communicator that will help elevate the play of our women’s tennis program.”
Weber is excited about the head coaching opportunity.
“I am thankful to York College for giving me the
opportunity to be a head coach,” says Weber. “I am
looking forward to getting started with the team. We have a strong
core of returning players but I will be working hard to get more
players that can elevate the level of our program.”
