YORK, PA – The York College women's team suffered an 8-1 Capital Athletic Conference loss to Southern Virginia in the Spartans regular season home finale on Saturday in York.
The Knights improve to 13-3 overall and 3-2 in the league. York falls to 7-5 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
The Spartans picked up their lone win of the match in the first doubles match as the tandem of Rachel Wagner and Gina Liguori combined to post an 8-4 win over Rachel Neeleman and Elizabeth Fuchts. The Knights earned the other two doubles points, winning the second doubles match 8-0 and the third doubles match 8-2.
The Knights swept the six singles points but the Spartans had a pair of three set losses. Wagner dropped a 4-6, 7-5, 10-4 loss to Neeleman in the first singles match. Liguori fell to Rachel Christensen 6-3, 4-6, 10-4 in the second singles match.
Southern Virginia captured the other four singles matches in straight sets.
The Spartans return to action next Saturday when they travel to Frostburg State University to complete their 2019 Capital Athletic Conference schedule. The match is slated for a noon start in Frostburg, Maryland.
