GETTYSBURG, PA – The York College women's tennis team picked up another fall win as they defeated Gettysburg 6-3 in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon in Gettysburg. The Spartans improve to 4-0 while the Bullets suffered their first loss of the year as they fell to 3-1.
York captured two of the three doubles points and then bookended the singles matches with wins at the first, second, fifth and sixth singles matches while the Bullets won the third and fourth singles matches.
3rd Doubles: Jessica Sherman/Chole Doyle def. Alexis Rinker/Shelby Deron, 8-0
1st Singles: Rachel Wagner def. Maria Martinovic 4-6, 7-6 (6-3), 10-4
2nd Singles: Gina Liguori def. Amanda Vinges 7-6 (7-1), 4-6, 10-7
5th Singles: Chole Doyle def. Samantha Anastasiou 6-1, 6-0
6th Singles: Hannah Shinsky def. Alexis Rinker 6-3, 6-3
Senior Rachel Wagner improved to 4-0 for the year and 32-13 in her career in singles play … Gina Liguori also improved to 4-0 in singles play for the Spartans … Liguori's win was her 20th career singles victory for the Spartans … sophomore Hannah Shinsky also remained perfect in singles play as she is 3-0 at sixth singles for York … York has outscored their opponents 31-5 in their four matches this fall.
The Spartans return to action on Sunday when they travel to Washington, DC to face the Catholic University Cardinals in a non-conference contest. The match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
