Spartan Women Pick Up Third Straight Win in Regular Season Finale

MIDDLETOWN, PA – The York College women's tennis team closed out their 2014 regular season with their third straight win as the Green and White downed Penn State Harrisburg 5-4 in Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon.

The Spartans improve to 4-10 overall with the win including 2-4 in the conference. The Lions fall to 3-15 overall and 0-6 in the league with the loss.

The Lions took the early advantage with two wins in the three doubles matches. The Spartan duo of Emily Price (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) posted an 8-1 win over the tandem of Alejandra Portillo and Hillary Mataure. The Lions won the third doubles match by forfeit as YCP only had five players who were able to travel to the make up contest.

After the Lions captured the first singles match, the Green and White ripped off four straight wins to seize the win.

Price won the second singles match 6-2, 6-1 followed by Darian Naill (New Windsor, Md./South Carroll) as she rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 third singles win. Skutnik posted a 6-3, 6-2 fourth singles win while freshman Mckenzie Krout (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) recorded a 6-2, 6-3 fifth singles win.
