YORK, PA – The York College women's tennis team closed out the home portion of their 2014 campaign with a 6-3 Capital Athletic Conference win over Frostburg State University on Sunday afternoon in York.
The Spartans improve to 3-10 overall and 1-4 in the CAC as York has won two straight. The Bobcats fall to 3-10 overall while they are also 1-4 in the league.
The Bobcats won the first doubles match 8-5 but the Green and White won the remaining two doubles matches to take the lead heading to the six singles matches. In the second doubles, Emily Price (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) and Megan Jones (Felton, Pa./Red Lion) notched an 8-2 win while Nikki Olson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Lauren Valles (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) combined to post an 8-3 third double victory.
The Spartans won four of the six singles matches to secure the win. Price earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in the second singles match. Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) earned a 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 fourth singles win.
Freshman Mckenzie Krout (Red Lion, Pa./Red Lion) bageled Jessi Hair 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth singles match while Jones rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win in the sixth singles contest.
The Spartans close out their regular season on Tuesday when they travel to Penn State Harrisburg for their regular season finale. The match is slated for a 3:30 pm start.
