OWINGS MILLS, MD – The York College women's tennis team picked up their first win of the fall as the Spartans blanked Stevenson 9-0 in a non-conference match on Sunday in Stevenson, Md.
The Spartans are now 1-2 for the fall while the Mustangs are 0-1.
The Spartans notched a pair of close wins in the three doubles matches while the third win was less tense.
Junior Dea Vlahos (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and senior Megan McCullin (New Windsor, Md./Westminster Senior) recorded an 8-6 victory in the first doubles match. That would be the same score for the second doubles tandem of Nikki Olson (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) and Emily Price (Hampstead, Md./North Caroll). The Spartans' third doubles team of Lauren Valles (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) rolled to an 8-3 win in their match.
In singles play, Vlahos outlasted Susannah Hobitzell 6-1, 3-6, 10-4 in the first singles match. McCullin rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at second singles while Olson also notched a 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles. Price notched a 6-3, 6-3 win at fourth singles to keep the Spartans rolling in the match. Valles earned an 8-1 pro set victory at fifth singles while Skutnik completed the sweep with an 8-3 pro set win in the sixth singles match.
The Spartans return to action on October 5 when they travel to Penn State Harrisburg to face the Lions in a 3:30 pm match.
