Women's Tennis Falls at Messiah

GRANTHAM, PA – The York College women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 non-conference match at Messiah College on Friday afternoon in Grantham, Pa. The Falcons improve to 3-0 overall while the Spartans drop to 0-2.

The Falcons swept the three doubles matches to take the early lead. The Spartans' third doubles duo of Lauren Valles (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) and Emily Skutnik (Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) played well before falling 9-8 in their match.

The Spartans picked up a pair of wins in singles. Senior Megan McCullin (New Windsor, Md./Westminster Senior) cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ellen Harpold in the first singles match.

Sophomore Emily Price (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) picked up York's other win in the match as she was victorious in a marathon third singles match. Price dropped the first set 7-5 but bounced back to win 6-2 and 10-5 in a super tie-breaker.

The Spartans return to action on Sunday when the travel to Stevenson to face the Mustangs. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
