YORK, Pa. - The York College women's tennis team concluded their 2011-2012 regular season campaign Sunday with a tight 5-4 victory over visiting Capital Athletic Conference foe Frostburg St. University. The win improves the Spartans' record 6-10 on the season, including 3-4 in the CAC, while the Bobcats drop to 4-9 and 2-4 in league action.
The Green and White snagged a pair of points in doubles play, taking the first and third slots. Seniors Katelyn Acker and Samantha Brenner teamed up for their triumph at first doubles courtesy of an 8-4 result. Arcondia Vlahos and Nicole Olson also provided a point for the Spartan ledger, this one from the third doubles spot. Collecting their team-high fifth victory together this year, Vlahos and Olson nabbed an 8-3 result to capture the win.
York also secured a trio of singles points to post the team triumph, each by way of three-set victories. In the top spot, Acker garnered one of those three-set wins. Falling behind after a 7-6 (4-0) loss in the first set, the senior came back to win sets two and three by 6-1 and 6-4 margins.
Brenner nabbed a singles point for the Green and White, winning the third slot also in three sets. Following a 6-1 loss to open the match, Brenner rallied for two straight victories, 6-3, 6-4, to notch her sixth win of the season.
Emily Price tallied the sixth singles triumph courtesy of a three-set, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 match. The Spartan rookie's second straight win gives her a 5-3 overall singles record in just her first collegiate campaign.
