FREDERICK, Md. – The York College women's tennis team picked up their tenth victory of the year Friday evening with a 7-2 triumph over Capital Athletic Conference foe Hood in Frederick, Md. The conference win improves the Spartans' overall mark to 10-6 and 5-2 in the CAC while the Blazers drop to 3-9 and 1-6 in league action.
The Green and White picked up two of their seven points in doubles as the second and third duos captured wins. In second doubles, Arcondia Vlahos and Megan McCullin secured the victory courtesy of an 8-3 result. The third slot went to Stephanie Nelson and Nicole Olson as they recorded an 8-1 triumph. The tandem, joining together later in the year, has quickly posted a 5-1 record this season.
Singles play saw the York squad collect five points, sweeping the second through sixth slots.
In second singles, Katelyn Acker improved to a team-best 11-5 with an 8-2 win. The junior's 11th win of the year ties her personal-best of 11 triumphs set last season.
McCullin snagged the third singles point courtesy of an 8-4 pro-set win while doubles teammate Vlahos won her eighth match of the year as she won 8-2 in the fourth slot.
The fifth and sixth slots belonged to Nelson and Olson, respectively, as each won by 8-0 scores.
The Green and White now head into the CAC Tournament. York, the tournament's third seed, hosts Frostburg State in a 1:30 pm first round match.
