ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Katelyn Acker's singles victory secured a Capital Athletic Conference triumph for the York College women's tennis team on Sunday as the Spartans topped host St. Mary's 5-4. The tight win improves the Green and White's record to 6-3 overall including 1-3 in CAC action while the Seahawks fall to 6-7 and 2-1 in league play.
With the match all square at 4-4 through eight points, Acker's win at second singles provided the decisive point for the Spartans. Her team-best sixth singles victory of the year came courtesy of a 6-2, 6-4 result.
In first doubles, Acker and freshman Sarah Wargo put the Spartans on the board with a close 9-7 win, a point which would prove vital in York's team win.
Wargo collected her own singles win, nabbing the 6-1, 6-1 win in the top spot. Samantha Brenner's 6-1, 6-0 triumph in third singles proved her fifth win of the season while Arcondia Vlahos snagged a 6-4, 6-4 win in fifth singles.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday, April 7, when they host Lebanon Valley in a 3:30 pm non-conference tilt.
