GRANTHAM, Pa. – Securing their fifth win of the 2010-2011 campaign, the York College women's tennis squad recorded an 8-1 non-conference triumph at Messiah on Tuesday. The victory moves the Spartans to 5-2 on the season.
In a tight result, the Green and White's number one doubles pair of Sarah Wargo and Katelyn Acker picked up a 9-7 victory. Samantha Brenner and Megan McCullin put together a solid effort in second doubles as they posted an 8-1 win. Arcondia Vlahos and Joelle Stasak, a pair of Spartan rookies, captured an 8-4 triumph in the third slot as they improve to 4-2 together on the year.
In number one singles action, Wargo again had a close match go her way. The York freshman snagged a come-from-behind 3-6, 6-2, 11-9 win.
Acker's 6-0, 6-3 victory in second singles gives her a 5-2 record this season while Brenner grabbed a 6-3, 6-2 triumph to reach her fourth win of the year.
McCullin's work at fourth singles gave her a 7-6 (4-0), 7-5 victory while Nicole Olson won a pro-set 8-6 match in the sixth slot.
The Spartans return to action on Thursday, March 24, when they host Hood in a 3:30 pm Capital Athletic Conference tilt.
