HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The York College women's tennis team successfully completed their annual trip to Hilton Head, S.C. today as the Spartans topped St. Vincent 6-3. The Green and White improve their early-season mark to a strong 4-0 while the Bearcats, who play a majority of their season in the fall, drop to 14-7.
The Spartans, who are off to their best start in over ten years, opened up the contest by taking two of the three doubles matches. Samantha Brenner and Megan McCullin combined to take second doubles by an 8-4 result. Rookies Arcondia Vlahos and Joelle Stasak put together an 8-4 triumph at third doubles.
York went on to secure four of the six singles matches as two of the four wins went to three sets. Junior captain Katelyn Acker secured the two-set triumph as she won second singles 6-3, 6-3.
Brenner tallied the victory in the third slot as she came back to record the 1-6, 6-2, 10-4 win. Vlahos, who registered the other two-set win, picked up her fourth win of her rookie year as she secured the fifth spot 7-6 (2-0), 6-3.
Nicole Olson, another Spartan freshman seeing court time in just her first year, posted a tight 6-4, 4-6, 11-9 victory in sixth singles.
The Green and White return to action on Saturday, March 12, when they travel to Salisbury to take on the Sea Gulls in a 12:00 pm Capital Athletic Conference tilt.
