HILTON HEAD, SC – The York College women’s tennis squad ended their trip to Hilton Head, S.C. with a disappointing 5-4 loss at the hands of St. Vincent College. The Spartans finished their Hilton Head visit with a 1-2 record.
The Spartans started the match losing two of the three doubles matches to fall to a 1-2 deficit before the start of singles play.
Doubles duo Katelyn Acker (Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) and Paige Doutrich (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) lost their first doubles match 9-7. The second doubles combination of Samantha Brenner (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) and Megan McCullin (New Windsor, Md./Westminster Senior) also lost their match 8-3. The Spartans third and final doubles team of Stephanie Nelson (Marriottsville, Md./Liberty) and Maria McFaulds (North Effort, Pa./Pleasant Valley) won their match 8-6.
Acker, McCullin, and Nelson each won their singles matches however it was not enough to grab victory for the Spartans. Acker captured her first singles match with a score 6-4, 6-1. McCullin won her fourth singles match 6-4, 6-4. Nelson won her fifth position singles match 7-5, 6-4.
The Spartans record fell to 1-4 after the defeat to St. Vincent. Their next match took place against Salisbury University, which the Spartans lost 9-0.
