YORK, PA – The York College women’s tennis team captured their second straight win as they knocked off Wesley College 7-2 in Capital Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon in York.
The Spartans improve to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in the CAC while the Wolverines fall to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the league.
The Spartans captured two of the three doubles matches in short order as Heidi Acker (Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) and Samantha Brenner (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) won the third doubles match 8-0. Seniors Keturah Buchanan (York, Pa./William Penn) and Megan Logan (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) combined to notch an 8-1 win in the second doubles match. The Wesley combination of Rebecca Pennington and Marina Palma won the first doubles match 9-8 as they captured the tiebreaker 7-0.
In singles play, freshman Katelyn Acker (Narvon, Pa./Pequea Valley) picked up her first collegiate singles victory as she defeated Pennington 6-4, 7-5. The Wolverines got their second win of the day in the second singles match but it would be all Spartans from that point on.
Heidi Acker notched an easy 6-1, 6-1 win at third singles while Logan picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the fourth singles match. Buchanan rolled to an 8-0 fifth singles win while Brenner won the sixth singles match 6-2, 6-1.
The Spartans return to action on April 14 when they travel to Stevenson University to face the Mustangs. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
