York Falls 6-3 to St. John Fisher
HILTON HEAD, SC - The York College women’s tennis team fell 6-3 to St. John Fisher Thursday afternoon in their final match of their winter break trip to Hilton Head, SC. With the loss the Spartans now stand at 0-3 for the season.
In singles play, York earned a pair of victories in the fifth
and sixth flights. Heidi Acker (Narvon, Pa./Pequea
Valley) continues her impressive start to the 2008
campaign winning 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 over Shannon Marble. The junior has
won each of her matches thus far and sports a 3-0 record. Freshman
Stephanie Nelson (Marriottsville, Pa./Liberty)
also moves to 3-0 after defeating Katie Catalano 6-4, 6-2.
Needing all three doubles matches to capture the victory, the
Spartans fell short with only the team of Nelson and Paige
Doutrich (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) landing in the win
column. The duo did win the third flight 8-2.
The Spartans now return home and are set to face the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Tuesday, March 4, at 2:00 pm.
