FREDERICKSBURG, VA - The York College women’s tennis team saw their 2008 campaign come to an end as the University of Mary Washington Eagles shutout the Spartans 9-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference semifinals on Thursday in Fredericksburg, VA. The Eagles, who are ranked seventh in the nation, improve to 19-3 overall. The Spartans have their first season under new head coach Ryan Weber come to an end with a mark of 5-10.
The Eagles swept the doubles with 8-1 wins a the first and third doubles while they notched an 8-2 win in the second doubles match.
In singles play, the Eagles did not drop a game as they won all six singles matches 6-0, 6-0.
The Spartans will lose Kristin Frederick (Woodstock, Conn/Woodstock Academy) and Katie Muir (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) to graduation but return all six starters and five of their six regular doubles players as they look to build on the successes of 2008.
