ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College women's swimming squad had a fantastic first full day of the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Championship as the Spartans sit in first place after 64 events. The Spartans have totaled 273 points as they hold an eight-point lead on perennial champion Mary Washington. St. Mary's is third but is 126 points back of Mary Washington.
Marymount (138 points), Frostburg (129 points), and Salisbury (91 points) round out the championship field.
Freshman Adrianna Ayala captured a second place finish in the 50 freestyle for her first All-CAC career finish. The 200 freestyle relay team of Ayala, Justine Wantz, Rachel Spaulding, and Danielle Werner combined to win the event with a time of 1:37.80.
The other two Spartan relay teams, the 400 medley relay and the 800 free relay, each earned second place finishes for the Green and White.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday morning when they compete in the preliminaries of the day's events. The 200 medley relays, the 400 IM, the 100 butterfly races, the 200 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke and the 100 backstroke events will be held on Saturday. The finals kick off at 6:00 pm.
