ST. MARY'S CITY, MD – The York College women's swim team had a strong day of competition during day two of the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference Swimming Championships hosted by St. Mary's College in St. Mary's City, MD.
The Spartans moved up one slot from Friday's action as the Green and White now sit third with 288 points.
The Spartans' Lindsey Buglino (Wharton, N.J./Jefferson) had a big night as she set a new school record in the 400 IM, recording a time of 4:45.93. Buglino finished seventh in the event but was just over two seconds out of fifth place.
York's 200 medley relay team of Samantha Wingate (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley), Courtney Daucheux (Dover, Pa./Dover), Kelsie Pike (Newark, Del./St. Mark's), and Megan Shannon (Hanover, Pa./South Western) broke a school record as they touched the wall in a combined time of 1:55.89. They finished fifth in the race but the foursome was just .73 seconds out of fourth and 1.47 seconds back of third.
Daucheux had a strong race in the 100 breaststroke as the Spartan junior recorded a time of 1:12.13 to earn a sixth place finish in the race.
Senior Jenny Hinkle (Olney, Md./Sherwood) qualified for the finals in the 200 freestyle and she placed eighth with a time of 2:03.18. Pike also recorded an eighth place finish in the 100 breaststroke, recording a time of 1:14.63, just .49 seconds out of seventh.
The Spartans return to the pool on Sunday morning to compete in the preliminaries before closing out the championships on Sunday evening. The preliminaries start at 10:00 am while the finals start at 6:00 pm.
