YORK, Pa. – The York College women's swim team fell in non-conference action to Washington & Jefferson Saturday afternoon by a score of 146-114. Prior to the meet, the Spartans their four senior women: Jenny Hinkle (Olney, Md. / Sherwood), Kelsie Pike (Newark, Del. / St. Mark's), Megan Murphy (Farmingdale, N.J. / Colts Neck), and Danielle Marino (Wind Gap, Pa. / Nazareth) for their contributions over the past four seasons.
Hinkle showed why she has been a valuable asset early. The distance specialist took to the water in the 1650 yard freestyle for the first time this season. She would prove to be the pacesetter for the event as her first place 19:22.02 finish was just over 14 seconds faster than the second place finisher. She would dive right back into the water for the 200 yard freestyle where she took fifth place with a time of 2:11.21. In her final event of the day, she completed the 500 yard freestyle in fifth place posting a time of 5:47.81.
Pike had a quality meet for herself. In her three events she garnered a second and two third place finishes. In her first event, the 50 yard breaststroke, she swam to a 34.77 finish earning one of her third place finishes. Her second third place finish came in the 100 yard breaststroke, where she finished in 1:16.22. Pike's second place finish came in the 50 yard butterfly event when she posted a 29.65 finish.
Murphy's senior day was complete with a third place relay finish combined with three individual fourth place finishes. In the first event of the day, Murphy kicked off her quartet's 200 yard medley relay with the backstroke. Her team's third place finish was registered at 2:01.69. In her first individual event, the 50 yard backstroke, Murphy's fourth place finish came at 37.57. She would follow up in the 100 yard backstroke by posting a time of 1:09.41. In her final appearance of the day, Murphy completed the four stroke 400 yard individual medley in 5:10.70.
The junior class gave a quality effort in their own right. Megan Shannon (Hanover, Pa. / South Western) contributed a third place, 2:05.83 finish in the 200 yard freestyle before taking second place in the 50 yard freestyle in 26.67. Casenya Stone (Annandale, Va. / The New School of Virginia) had a pair of first place finishes in the 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle events. In the 50 yard contest she posted a time of 25.61; she followed up in the 100 yard contest with a 56.89. Lindsey Buglino (Wharton, N.J. / Jefferson) continued her successful campaign by adding two first place and a second place finish. In her first event, she placed second in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:04.78. Her first place finishes would come in the 500 yard freestyle, where she would finish in 5:27.75, and the 400 yard individual medley where she finished in 4:48.62.
The loss drops the Green and White to 2-6 on the season. They will return to action next Saturday November 23, when they take on Salisbury in CAC competition.
