FROSTBURG, Md. – The York College women's swimming team dove into a meter pool Saturday afternoon as they defeated Frostburg State in their season finale by a score of 110-78. The victory improved the ladies to 6-8 on the year.
The Spartan team of Megan Murphy (Farmingdale, NJ/ Colts Neck), Lindsey Buglino (Wharton, NJ/ Jefferson), Casenya Stone ( Annandale, Va./ The School of Northern Virginia), and Chelsea Ross (Paoli, Pa/ PA Cyber) started off the meet by winning the 200 meter medley relay in 2:22.28. The team of Sammy Greenwald (Germantown, MD/ Northwest), Kelsie Pike (Newark, Del./St. Marks), Katelyn Romm (Chester, Md/ Kent Island), and Mandy Oldham (Birdsboro, Pa/ Daniel Boone) took third in the event with a 2:25.01.
The next event, the 800 meter freestyle, was an all Spartan contest as Greenwald topped teammates Meg Dailey (New Windsor, NY/ Cornwall Central) and Laurel France (Ferry, Conn./Ledyard) by finishing with a time of 11:09.89. Dailey followed up with a 12:03.15 and France with a 12:19.80.
Buglino took second place in the 200 meter freestyle with a 2:38.09.
In the 50 meter freestyle Stone and Courtney Dacheux (Dover, Pa/Dover) topped the field finishing just 0.01 seconds apart with a 28.30 and 28.31, respectively.
Pike and fellow junior Jenny Hinkle (Olney, Md/ Sherwood) took the top spots in the 200 meter IM finishing three tenths of a second apart. Hinkle took first with a 2:48.67 and Pike with a 2:48.97.
Maddie Tonkay (Landisville, Pa/Hempfield) and Dailey took second and third in the 200 meter butterfly contest with times of 1:24.79 and 1:27.48, respectively.
Anna Schuster (Reistertown, Md/Franklin) and Oldham took first and third in the 100 meter freestyle. Schuster touched in 1:08.80, Oldham in 1:12.68.
Moving to the 200 yard backstroke, Ross earned first place points with a 1:16.28. Hinkle touched in 1:21.82, good for third place.
Dacheux and Murphy took second and third in the 400 meter freestyle race with times of 5:08.62 and 5:19.24, respectively.
After finishing the season in impressive fashion, the Green and White will continue to train with eyes on the Capital Athletic Conference Championship meet at St. Mary's February 15-17.
