Spartans Take Eight Firsts; Best Elizabethtown

YORK, Pa. – The York College women's swimming team moved their record back to the .500 mark on Saturday courtesy of a 144-118 win over visiting Elizabethtown. The Spartans' home triumph boosts their record to 6-6 on the season and marks their fifth-straight victory.

The Green and White opened the meet with a 200 medley relay win. The team of Kathy Murphy, Lindsey Buglino, Kelsie Pike, and Courtney Dacheux put together a victorious time of 2:01.95 to give the Spartans 11 first-place points.

Individually, junior Chelsea Ross posted a pair of victories for the Spartan side. The talented freestyle swimmer took both the 100 and 200 free events with times of 57.49 and 2:02.90, respectively.

Murphy, who had led off York's triumphant 200 medley relay squad, grabbed first in the 100 backstroke with a 1:07.22 while Dacheux, the relay anchor, collected first-place points in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.00. Each of these two secured second in two other events as Murphy recorded the runner-up spot in the 200 backstroke (2:24.88) and Dacheux clocked in second in the 100 freestyle (58.24).

Adding three more victories to the Spartan ledger, the Green and White proved triumphant in the 200 breaststroke, 500 freestyle, and 400 IM. Alex Minsky secured the top spot in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:44.37 while Michaela Guild posted first in the 500 freestyle as she clocked a 5:31.56. Lindsey Buglino notched the victory in the 400 IM with a 5:04.98.

Earlier in the afternoon, Buglino took second in the 200 freestyle with a 2:07.06 followed by Jenny Hinkle's 2:09.14. Meg Walker snagged second with a 2:34.36 in the 200 butterfly while Kelsie Pike registered a 2:45.44 to grab the runner-up spot in the 200 breaststroke. Katelyn Romm posted second in the 100 butterfly with a 1:11.23.

Having now completed their fall semester slate, the Spartans now look forward to the winter training period with over a month off until their next meet. York is scheduled to return to meet action on Saturday, January 14, as they travel to Collegeville, Pa. to face Ursinus in a 1:00 pm tilt.
