YORK, Pa. – The York College women's swimming team began the 2011-12 season at home this year squaring up against conference rivals Mary Washington and Hood College. The Green and White concluded the meet with victory over Hood College 104-18 and but fell to Mary Washington 82-40.
The Spartans had great performances by many individuals who showed promise for a quality season. Three notable swimmers that had very successful starts to their years as Chelsea Ross, Courtney Dacheux, and Michaela Guild put together solid opening meets
Ross had a pretty impressive start to her junior campaign, collecting a first-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.36 and a second-place finish in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 57.54.
Another outstanding performance came from a newcomer Dacheux in her very first collegiate meet. Dacheux simply dominated her opponents grabbing two first place finishes. The rookie snagged the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.09 and the 100 freestyle with a time of 57.28, as these opening performances should help her become a steady contributor to the Spartan squad this season.
The last but certainly not least swimmer for the Spartans that helped the Spartans to their victory over Hood College was Guild. The senior concluded this evening with two solid second-place finishes. The first was the 500 freestyle where she grabbed a time of 5:32.99 and the second was the 1000 freestyle where she posted a 11:15.47.
The Green and White placed second in both the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay. In the medley, Kathy Murphy, Lindsey Buglino, Susha Stone, and Megan Shannon combined for a time of 2:00.87. The 200 yard freestyle relay featuring Dacheux, Shannon,Stone, and Ross the gathered a time of 1:45.02.
The York squad now has a quick turn-around as they return to action on Saturday, November 5. The Spartans will be on the road tomorrow as they face Marymount University in Arlington, Va. The CAC dual meet is slated for a 2:00 pm start.
