YORK, Pa. – In their final home meet of the 2010-2011 campaign, the York College women's swimming team fell to visiting Millersville 118-81 Friday evening at the Grumbacher Sport & Fitness Center. The defeat drops the Spartans to 5-8 on the season.
Despite the loss, the Green and White did put together several strong performances, winning four individual races as well as the 400 freestyle relay.
Michaela Guild continued her tremendous season on Friday as she snagged two of York's individual wins as well as leading off the 400 free relay squad. The junior captured the 1,000 freestyle with an 11:20.00 as she bested the Marauders' Arielle Walbert by seven seconds. Guild's 11:20.00 marks her fastest 1,000 time of the season.
Later, Guild won the 500 freestyle as she touched in at 5:32.89. The triumph in Friday's 500 marks her fourth-straight victory in the event.
In the 400 relay, Guild teamed up with Kate Estes, Chelsea Ross, and Anna Schuster to record the win as the group combined for a 3:58.30.
Ross and Schuster also picked up wins of their own against Millersville. Ross, a talented sophomore, collected the 200-freestyle victory as she came in at 2:03.45. Schuster, a promising freshman, secured the win in the 200 IM, touching the wall at 2:22.74.
Aside from her triumph in the 200 freestyle, Ross took the runner-up slot in the 100 free. She posted a 57.89 to add second-place points to the Spartan ledger.
Kathy Murphy came in second in the 100 backstroke with a 1:06.28 while rookie Jenny Hinkle registered a 5:46.08 in the 500 free to snag second-place.
The 400 medley relay team of Muphy, Kelsie Pike, Amanda Silcox, and Katelyn Romm also recorded a runner-up finish as they combined to post a 4:30.73.
York quickly turns around as they are back in action on Saturday, January 22. The Green and White are slated to travel to Capital Athletic Conference newcomer Frostburg St. for a 1:00 pm dual meet with the Bobcats.
