Spartans Conclude CAC Championships in Fifth

ST. MARY’S CITY, MD- The York College women’s swim team finished fifth over their three day stay at the 2008 Capital Athletic Conference championships in St. Mary’s City, MD. The Spartans finished with 275 points as they overtook Hood for fifth after spending the first two days of the championships in sixth. Mary Washington captured the title with 924 points, 405.5 points ahead of second place St. Mary’s College. Marymount placed third and Salisbury notched a four place finish while Hood finished sixth and Gallaudet placed seventh.

The Spartans’ day started with Kaitlin Crean (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) finishing seventh in the 1650 free with a time of 19:26.31. Teammate Allison Blaszky (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) finished tenth in the race as she recorded a time of 19:58.04.

Sophomore Molly Wasik (York, Pa./Spring Grove) notched her second school record of the championships as she placed seventh in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:19.55. Wasik broke the record during preliminaries and then did it again during the finals. She broke the school record in the 200 IM on Friday night.

Ashley Stanton (Columbia, Md./Hammond) recorded a ninth place finish in the 100 free with a time of 57.91.

Senior Laura McCray (Laurel, Md./Laurel) closed out her stellar career with a fifth place finish in the 200 fly as she touched the wall in a school-record time of 2:17.13.

The 400 freestyle relay team of Stanton, McCray, Wasik and Bridget Miller (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark’s) concluded the championships with a sixth place finish in their race with a time of 3:55.83.

The Spartans lose six swimmers to graduation as McCray, Jen Ehrenreich (Cherry Hill, N.J./Bishop Eustace), Amy Leatherman (Baltimore, Md./Parkville), Jessie Reick (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield), Lauren Richardson (Naples, Fla./Naples), Pam Tobin (Estell Manor, N.J./Holy Spirit), and Tristen Ziegler (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) have put on the green and white suits for the last time. York finished the regular season with a mark of 6-7.
