Marauders Down Spartans in Dual Meet
MILLERSVILLE, PA – Coming off last night’s pair of
victories, the York College women’s swimming team could not
ride that momentum as they fell 117.5-87.5 at Millersville
University Saturday afternoon. Despite the loss, sophomore
Heather MacLennan (Galena, Md./St. Mark's) picked
up a pair of individual wins while leading off York’s
triumphant 400 freestyle relay squad.
MacLennan’s first victory of the afternoon came in the 200
freestyle as the sophomore clocked in at 2:01.97. Classmate
Michaela Guild (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent Pallotti)
captured second in the event finishing in 2:05.64.
The 200 backstroke provided MacLennan’s second individual
victory. She cruised to a 2:12.26, finishing over five seconds
ahead of the second-place finisher, despite recording just her
third-best time of the season.
The 400 free relay belonged to the Spartan side as MacLennan,
Liz Grey (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy),
Chelsea Ross (Paoli, Pa./PA Cyber), and
Ashley Stanton (Columbia, Md./Hammond) combined to
bring in first-place points. York’s 3:51.17 edged
Millersville’s “A” squad by more than a full
second.
The Spartans’ 400 medley squad of Kathy Murphy
(Farmingdale, N.J./Colts Neck), Alex Minsky
(Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), Amanda Silcox
(Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest), and Guild garnered second to
lead off the meet. Their combined 4:25.18 proved four-and-a-half
seconds better than York’s previous best this season in the
relay event.
Individually, the Spartans collected five second-place finishes,
including Guild’s runner-up spot in the 200 free. The
sophomore also captured second in the 500 freestyle with a time of
5:42.07. Kaitlin Crean (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield
Warde) recorded third with a 5:46.39 while Alison
Beverly (Andover, N.J./Newton) secured fourth for the
Spartans with a 5:52.45.
The Green and White also grabbed the second through fourth spots
in the 1,000 freestyle. Crean recorded second with an 11:56.02,
Beverly third with a 12:00.75, and Ross fourth courtesy of a
12:01.93 time.
Minsky tallied second in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:40.76. The
rookie’s individual second-place finish proves her second in
as many days as Minsky took second in the 100 breaststroke less
than 24 hours prior.
York’s final runner-up finish came courtesy of Grey in the
100 butterfly. Grey touched the wall at 1:04.84 to top her previous
season-best of 1:06.12 established on November 21 at St.
Mary’s. Silcox nabbed third in the event, clocking in at
1:05.28.
In preparation for the grueling Capital Athletic Conference
Championships at the end of the season, the Spartans face
back-to-back meets again next weekend. York squares off with
Elizabethtown in a 6:00 p.m. home contest Friday evening before
hosting Gallaudet and Penn-State Altoona in a 1:00 p.m. tri-meet on
Saturday, December 12.
