Spartans Fall to Tough SMCM Squad
YORK, PA – The York College women’s
swimming team dropped a 131-74 result to visiting Capital Athletic
Conference foe St. Mary’s College of Maryland on Saturday
afternoon. The defeat drops the Spartan record to an even 4-4 on
the year, including 2-3 in the CAC. The Seahawks improve to 5-2 and
4-0 in league action.
The Spartans picked up a pair of
individual victories during the meet, beginning with sophomore
Lisa King (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright). King
secured the green and white’s initial first-place finish in
the 400 IM touching in at 5:05.25.
Molly Wasik (York, Pa./Spring
Grove) nabbed the Spartans second victory of the
afternoon, taking the 100 backstroke. The junior covered the 100
yard event in 1:05.69.
Senior Ashley Stanton (Columbia,
Md./Hammond) picked up two second-place finishes for the
York side. She touched the wall at 26.45 in the 50 freestyle to
claim the event’s second slot then registered a 57.56 in the
100 freestyle to garner the runner-up position.
Freshman Michaela Guild (Laurel,
Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) continues to make her mark on
the CAC in just her rookie season, tallying a second and a third
place finish. The freestyle distance swimmer came in second in the
500 free with a time of 5:44.19, while securing third in the 1,000
free with an 11:41.37.
Including Guild’s third-place
finish, York registered six individual thirds on the afternoon.
Sophomore Alison Beverly (Andover, N.J./Newton)
secured third in the 400 IM finishing in a time of 5:07.83.
Freshman Hannah Bell (Red Lion, Pa./Mountainview
International) touched the wall at 2:07 in the 200
freestyle, while fellow rookie Liz Grey (Bensalem,
Pa./Nazareth Academy) finished the 100 butterfly in a time
of 1:04.47. In the 100 freestyle, Kaitlin Estes (Athens,
Pa./Athens Area) timed in at 58.36 for her third-place
finish and Allison Brophy (Reading, Pa./Reading)
captured third in the 500 freestyle touching the wall at
5:49.84.
In the relays, the Spartans took second in
the 400 medley event and grabbed both second and third in the 400
freestyle. The 400 medley group of Wasik, Colleen Nolan
(Annandale, Va./Annandale), Grey, and Bridget
Miller (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) clocked in at 4:27.22
to secure second. In the 400 freestyle, Stanton, Estes, King, and
Guild teamed up for a 3:55.06, while Kristin Leonard
(Herndon, Va./Herndon), Beverly, Bell, and Wasik timed in
at 4:03.79.
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, December 6, when they
host both Salisbury and Goucher in York’s second home
tri-meet of the season. The meet is slated for a 1:00 pm start from
the York College Natatorium.
