Spartans Complete Regular Season with Victory
FROSTBURG, MD – The York College
women’s swim team defeated Frostburg State University 166-90
on Saturday afternoon in York’s final regular-season meet.
With the road win, the Spartans up their season mark to 7-6 while
the Bobcats drop to 1-9 for the campaign.
Molly Wasik (York, Pa./Spring
Grove) posted a banner day as she tallied a trio of
individual wins. The junior’s first victory came in the 100
backstroke registering a time of 1:12.64. In the 200 back, Wasik
nabbed her second victory by touching the wall at 2:38.92 before
clocking a first-place 2:41.06 in the 200 IM.
Including Wasik, six Spartans would grab
individual wins on the afternoon beginning with Alison
Beverly (Andover, N.J./Newton) securing the 800 freestyle
with a time of 10:50.68. Allison Brophy (Reading,
Pa./Reading) then captured the 200 free with a time of
2:22.54, barely edging out teammate Bridget Miller
(Wilmington, Del./St. Mark's) who clocked a 2:22.55. The
Spartans swept the 200 free as Hannah Bell (Red Lion,
Pa./Mountainview International) came in third with a time
of 2:26.76.
The 200 butterfly belonged to Lisa King
(Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) who clocked a 2:43.06 to
win the event. Michaela Guild (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent
Pallotti) and Liz Grey (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth
Academy) tallied York’s final two individual
victories taking first in the 400 freestyle and 100 butterfly
respectively. Guild touched in at 4:55.45 in the 400 free while
Grey secured first-place points in the 100 fly with a time of
1:13.28. Grey also took second in the 200 butterfly clocking in at
2:43.29.
In the 100 breaststroke, junior Flor
Aroche (Spring, Texas/Tomball) nabbed second with a
1:28.70 time before Ashley Stanton (Columbia,
Md./Hammond) and Kaitlyn Estes (Athens, Pa./Athens
Area) went 2-3 in the 50 freestyle with times of 30.52 and
30.65 respectively.
Stanton then added to her personal point total
for the meet as she landed in third in the 100 freestyle with a
time of 1:06.55 just 13 hundredths of a second behind
Miller’s 1:06.42.
The Spartans also swept the 200 backstroke as
Wasik took first, Bell grabbed second with a 2:47.28, and Brophy
came in third with a 2:53.12.
In the 200 breaststroke, Colleen Nolan
(Annandale, Va./Annandale) registered a second-place
finish with a 3:07.68 while Aroche touched the wall at 3:17.31.
Kaitlin Crean (Fairfield,
Conn./Fairfield Warde) and Estes secured two more
second-place finishes for the York side in the 400 freestyle and
100 butterfly respectively. Crean posted a 5:12.21 in the 400 free
while Estes touched in at 1:16.97 in the 100 fly.
The Spartans captured a win in the 200 free
relay as Grey, Stanton, Guild, and Miller combined to touch the
wall at 1:59.44. Estes, Brophy, Bell, and King came in second in
the event with a 2:03.55 time.
The Spartans will now returning to training as
they gear up for next month’s Capital Athletic Conference
Championships. The Green and White will travel to St. Mary’s
College of Maryland February 13-15 for the league
championships.
