ST. MARY’S CITY, MD – The York
College women’s swim team established four new school records
on the second day of the Capital Athletic Conference Championships.
The Green and White broke three individual marks as well as the 800
freestyle relay record.
Freshman Michaela Guild (Laurel,
Md./St. Vincent Pallotti) continued her solid performance
in her first league championships as she set a new school-best in
the 200 freestyle. Guild dashed the record twice during the day,
besting the old mark in the morning preliminaries before topping
that morning time with a 2:01.08 in the evening finals. Guild, who
has now posted two school records at this year’s
championships, finished the 200 free in fifth-place.
Junior Molly Wasik (York, Pa./Spring
Grove) turned in yet another quality showing as she posted
her second individual school record of the championships. Wasik,
who notched a school-best time in the 200 IM race yesterday, placed
her name in the York record books once again, this time in the 100
backstroke. The junior touched the wall in a time of 1:03.62 to
finish ninth overall.
Liz Grey (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth
Academy), in just her first CAC Championships, bested
York’s top 100 butterfly time with her own 1:01.99 while
coming in tenth.
York’s 800 freestyle relay team of
Ashley Stanton (Columbia, Md./Hammond),
Hannah Bell (Red Lion, Pa./Mountainview
International), Bridget Miller (Wilmington,
Del./St. Mark's), and Guild grabbed not only nabbed
another Spartan record but also York’s highest finish of the
day. The group posted an 8:21.91, good for fourth in the event.
The Spartans enter Sunday’s final day of
competition in fifth place, just 39 points behind fourth place
Salisbury. The championships conclude with the 1,650 freestyle, 200
backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, and 400
freestyle relay.
