Marauders Slip By Spartans on Friday
MILLERSVILLE, PA-The York College women’s
swim team dropped a close 109-96 non-division meet at Millersville
University on Friday night in Millersville, PA. The Spartans fall
to 2-3 overall while the Marauders improve to 2-0 for the
campaign.
The meet opened with the Spartans posting a second place finish in
the 200-medley relay as the team of Molly Wasik (York,
Pa./Spring Grove), Colleen Nolan (Annandale,
Va./Annandale), Lisa King (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton
Wright), and Kaitlyn Estes (Athens, Pa./Athens
Area) combined to post a time of 2:00.00, 1.1 seconds back
of the winning Millersville squad.
Spartan freshman Michaela Guild (Laurel, Md./St. Vincent
Pallotti) posted York’s first individual win as she
won the 1,000 free as she recorded a time of 11:27.79 which gave
her a 12 second win. York picked up another individual win as
freshman Allison Brophy (Reading, Pa./Reading)
edged Millersville Rebecca Irvine by .93 seconds in the 200
freestyle. Brophy touched the wall in a time of 2:04.00 in the win.
York’s Ashley Stanton (Columbia,
Md./Hammond) finished third to pick up three points for
the Spartans who led 30-25 through three events.
Millersville recaptured the lead with a first and second place
finish in the 50 free as Spartan Liz Grey (Bensalem,
Pa./Nazareth Academy) finished third with a time of 26.92.
The Marauders pushed the lead to 53-40 as they notched another
one-two finish, this time in the 200 IM. York’s Wasik placed
third with a time of 2:22.93.
The Marauders captured first place in the 200 butterfly but York
seized the next two spots with Grey finishing second with a time of
2:24.78 while King was third with a 2:25.37. Millersville scored
another win in the 100 freestyle but York again finished second and
third. Stanton was the runner-up with a time of 58.03 while Estes
was third with a 58.24.
Wasik recorded her first individual win of the evening as she won
the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:21.33. Freshman Hannah
Bell (Red Lion, Pa./Mountainview International) placed
third and Allison Beverly (Andover, N.J./Newton)
placed fifth as York trimmed their deficit to 83-67.
Guild won her second event of the evening as she cruised to a seven
second win in the 500 free, completing the race in a time of
5:33.99. Brophy finished second with a time of 5:40.94. Those two
finishes drew the Spartans to within nine at 89-80.
The Marauders put the meet away with a one-two-three finish in the
200 breaststroke. That result increased the Millersville lead to
105-83. The Spartans finished the meet with a win in the 200
free relay as the foursome of Stanton, Guild, Grey and
Bridget Miller (Wilmington, Del./St. Mark’s)
combined to post a time of 1:46.88.
The Spartans will jump back into action on Saturday afternoon as
they host PSU-Altoona and Gallaudet in a tri-meet. The action is
set to kick off at 1:00 pm at the York College Natatorium.
