How It Happened:

• The Spartans and Lions battled back-and-forth throughout the first half and both goalkeepers and defenses kept the opposing offenses at bay resulting in a 0-0 score going into the break.

• In the 48th minute it appeared York got on the board but was called offside negating the score and keeping the game tied 0-0.

• The Spartan offense was knocking on the doorstep the entire second half and finally broke through the Lion defense when Caitlin Rankin took advantage of a misplayed ball by the Lions and placed a shot perfectly into the lower left corner of the net to give the Spartans the 1-0 lead with just under two and half minutes to play.

• York got a key insurance goal in the final minute from Emily Munkittrick from 30 yards out to preserve the 2-0 win for the Spartans.
