How It Happened:
• Both teams were unable to generate many quality chances until the Blue Jays created numbers on the offensive end and after York keeper Sydney Kahn made a sprawling save, the ball ricocheted right to Madison Burnham who headed the ball across the face of the net to a wide-open Lydia Lawson who tapped in her sixth goal of the season in the 15th minute.
• The Spartans answered back just before the half-hour mark as Ryan Hussey scrambled to recover a loose ball in the box and rocket a shot past the keeper to tally her team leading fifth goal on the year and tied the score 1-1, the score would remain time the rest of the half.
• It only took 25 seconds into the second period when junior Georgia Gillcrist received a perfect through ball pass from fellow junior Natalie McCarthy and outran the Blue Jay defense, beating the keeper in a one-on-one situation and gave the Spartans a 2-1 lead right away in the second half.
• The Spartan defense held strong and they dominated the second half. Sydney Kahn recorded six saves, none bigger than one in the final seconds of regulation to preserve the 2-1 victory for York.
