YORK, PA - York College senior defender Caitlin Aversa (Severna Park, Md./Archbishop Spalding) was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
The Spartans picked up a pair of huge wins for the week as Aversa spearheaded a defense that picked up its 11th and 12th shutouts of the year. In the win over Gettysburg, Aversa pushed up late in the second overtime and was able to finish a great chance for a game-winning goal with 2:45 left in the second OT. The goal was her second of the year. Aversa then played all 90 minutes in the 1-0 shutout win over Salisbury. The Spartan defense limited the potent Sea Gull attack to just eight total shots including just three attempts on target. The Spartan defense is riding a scoreless streak of 873 minutes.
Aversa, a senior captain, has tallied five points on two goals and one assist for the year.
