YORK, PA - For the second time this season, York College sophomore goalie Melanie Glessner has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 8, 2012.
Glessner was again outstanding for the Spartans as she pitched a pair of shutouts for the week. Glessner, who is the top ranked goalie in Division III with a 0.08 goals against average, recorded 11 saves in 220 minutes for the week as York played to a pair of scoreless ties.
In the tie with Goucher, Glessner made three saves in earning the shutout. In the key CAC contest against Mary Washington on Saturday, Glessner made eight saves including a big stop in the first overtime as she increased her school record for single-season shutouts to nine.
Glessner ranks second in Division III in save percentage as she extended her personal scoreless streak to 675:45. She has not allowed a goal since the September 12 match against Dickinson.
Glessner is a Criminal Justice/Sociology major and is the daughter of Gaynor Robben and William Glessner.
