GRANTHAM, Pa. – The York College women's soccer team suffered a tough 9-0 loss to #1 Messiah Wednesday evening in Grantham. With the defeat, the Spartans drop to 1-6 on the season while the Falcons improve to 5-0-1.
Despite the final score, the Green and White started off the contest exceptionally well. The first 20 minutes saw the Spartans push the pace, even giving the talented Messiah squad an early scare. With the score at 0-0, Jordan Snook slipped a ball from the endline across to the goal, however Falcon goalkeeper Autumn Reilly cleaned up the early Spartan opportunity.
Messiah broke through for the game's first score in the 23rd minute when Alex Brandt found Corrine Wulf for the opening salvo. The second tally came in the 29th minute as Lisa Wingard crossed the ball from the right side to Rachel Scheibeler at the top of the box. Scheibeler settled the pass before sending home the Falcons' second.
The first half came to a close with a Lauren Federline goal in the 42nd minute. Wingard again provided the assist as Federline headed-in the home team's third tally.
In the second stanza, Messiah opened the scoring within the first minute, courtesy of an Erin Hench tally, and would go on to score five more in the frame.
Putting the result behind them, the Spartans now turn their attention to Saturday's Capital Athletic Conference match against St. Mary's (Md.). York welcomes the Seahawks to Graham Field for the 12:30 pm contest.
