PITTSBURGH, PA – The York College women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to Carnegie Mellon in the second round of the Radisson Invitational on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh. The Spartans fall to 0-4 for the campaign while the Tartans improve to 2-2 for the year.

Carnegie Mellon struck early as they scored on their first shot of the game. Brittany Couture placed a cross in the center of the box where Brianna Magill headed the pass home, giving the hosts the 1-0 lead just 5:57 into the match.

The play evened out over the next 40 minutes as the Tartans took the 1-0 lead to the intermission. Both teams fired three first half shots while Carnegie Mellon had six corner kicks to none for the Spartans.

York had the first quality chance of the second half as senior Stephanie Rice snapped a header that was saved by Tartan goalie Anna Albi. Elsa Wu picked up the loose ball and converted a shot for a goal, giving the hosts the 2-0 lead. The goal was Wu's second of the year and came at the 61:47 mark.

The Green and White continued to battle despite the two-goal deficit. The Spartans finally found the back of the net in the 78th minute as junior Jordan Snook fired an initial shot that was saved by Albi. The carom came right back to Snook who drilled the ball home, trimming the Spartan deficit to 2-1. Her goal was her first Spartan goal and was York's first tally of the year.

Carnegie Mellon got an insurance goal with 32 seconds left in regulation as Rachel Contopoulos scored her second goal of the year on a 20-yard shot to the upper 90.

The Tartans outshot the Spartans 10-8 in overall shots and 7-5 in shots on goal. CMU registered a large 14-2 advantage in corner kicks while both teams had four fouls.
