YORK, PA - York College women's soccer forward Ali Jones (Riva, Md./Archbishop Spalding) has been selected as the Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week for August 31 through September 6. Jones tallied three goals and a two assists for the week as she has led the Green and White to a 3-0 start.
In York's season-opener against Eastern, Jones helped the Spartans post a 4-2 victory. The junior assisted on a Steph Mergler (Street, Md./North Harford) goal which put the Spartans up 2-1 in the 78th minute. After Eastern tied the match less than two minutes later, Jones tallied the eventual game-winner in the 84th minute of play.
Just two days later, Jones posted another game-winning performance in York's Capital Athletic Conference opener at Hood. Down 1-0 early in the match, the junior forward knotted the score at one apiece in the 15th minute before burying another game-winner in the 61st minute as lead the Spartans left Frederick, Md. with the 2-1 victory.
Jones completed her stellar week by adding another point to her early-season total in York's 4-0 defeat of Susquehanna. Jones connected with Mergler yet again on a brilliant give-and-go, for her second helper of the year.
Jones and the Spartans will look to continue their early season success on Wednesday, September 9, as the Green and White travel to Dickinson to take on the Red Devils in a 5:00 pm non-conference tilt.
