YORK, PA - York College women's soccer senior Lauren Stewart (West River, Md./Southern) has been chosen to the NSCAA All-South Atlantic Region first team for her outstanding play during the 2009 campaign. Stewart garners the program's fifth all-region selection as the Spartans' have had honorees in each of the past five seasons.
Stewart was a stalwart in York's defensive midfield throughout the season. Her steady play and calming presence provided the Green and White with a solid force in the middle of the pitch.
She started in all 15 games in which she played before being sidelined by a late-season injury. With Stewart in the starting lineup, the Spartans posted an 11-3-1 record and had outscored their opponents by a 41-21 margin.
Aside from her all-region accolades, Stewart also collected first-team All-Capital Athletic Conference honors this season after also being a first-team all-league selection last season.
During Stewart’s four seasons, the Spartans went an impressive 54-22-8 overall while they went 23-6-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference. Stewart was a key cog in York's lineup when Spartans captured their first CAC Tournament title in 2007, garnering their first NCAA Tournament appearance where they reached the Sweet 16.
