York College Announces Fall Schedules

YORK, PA- The York College athletic department released their 2008 fall schedules on Monday. The Spartans’ fall sports include men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, field hockey, and men’s and women’s cross country.
A following is a look at the upcoming Spartan fall contests.

Women’s Soccer

The Spartan Skinny: The Spartans will look to defend their CAC championship in 2008. The green and white must replace six key seniors including all-time leading scorers Erin Kuhn and Emily Sullivan. The Spartans will rely on a standout defense led by Kali Macgregor, Caitlin Allen, Jackie Moser, and Ally Wyvill, as the young and talented forwards gel with an experienced midfield. CAC Coach-of-the-Year Vicki Sterner brings in another stellar recruiting class as York looks to defend their CAC championship and make a return trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Spartan Skinny: The Spartans look to build on their back-to-back Elite Eight appearances buoyed by the return of All-American Chris Ports. Chris will get the chance to team with brother Jon, the 2007 Capital Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Year, forming one of the most potent offensive duos in the South Region. The Spartans also return All-American defender Evan Scheffey who will be joined by All-CAC defender Mike Whalen to give York a solid unit in front of three-year starting goalie Kyle Marks.

The Spartan Skinny: The Spartans enter 2008 looking to build on last year’s record-tying 30 victories. Spartan head coach Sue DuMars must replace four-year setter Katie Hertz but DuMars welcomes back a core of highly talented players including CAC Rookie-of-the-Year Lindsay Schorner, middle hitter Alishia Waltermyer, outside hitter Casi Brough, middle hitter Heather Toth, and libero Jess Smith. York won three in-season tournament championships including the Spartan Best Western Westgate Invitational in mid-September. York again will host the tournament on Sept. 19 and 20 at the Grumbacher Center.

The Spartan Skinny: The Spartans are looking to rebound from their six-win season in 2007. Spartan head coach Megan Eckenrode welcomes back 11 of her top 12 scorers from last year while she also welcomes back starting netminder Claire Rekitzke. York looks to get off to a good start as they play four of their first five games of the year at home including the season lid-lifter on August 29 against Albright.

The Spartan Skinny: York College welcomes back a core of talented runners from last year’s third-place finishers at the CAC Championships. Senior Jesse Jaeger headlines the Spartans returners as he is looking to become a four-time All-CAC runner. Jaeger, the 2005 CAC Rookie-of-the-Year, finished seventh at last year’s championship to earn first-team honors. He will be surrounded by a strong group of sophomores that will be expected to provide depth and scoring to the Spartan squad.

The Spartan Skinny: York College looks to bolster their ranks with a strong recruiting class after fielding a small, yet determined, squad in 2007. Melody Parshall, the 2007 CAC Rookie-of-the-Year, leads the Spartan squad after she finished fifth at the CAC championships last year.

2008 Women's Cross Country Schedule

The Spartan golf squad, which has a split season in the fall and the spring, has not released their 2008 fall season. That schedule will be posted on the Spartan athletic web site, www.ycpspartans.com, as soon as it becomes available.
