WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The 13th ranked York College Spartan wrestling squad cruised to a 3-0 day during pool play at the 2019 Budd Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming College on Friday in Williamsport, PA. The Spartans outscored their three opponents by a combined score of 107-28 en route to winning the A bracket of the dual meet tournament.
York advances to Saturday's championship round as they will need to win two matches to capture the championship. York has never won the Whitehill Duals in 10 trips with their best finish coming with a runner-up finish in 2017. York finished third last year.
The Spartans began the day with a 40-6 rout of Southern Virginia. They followed that with a 31-11 win over SUNY-Oswego and concluded their 3-0 day with a 36-11 victory over Williams.
In the win over SVU, the Spartans won the first six weight classes to race out to a 31-0 lead. After Jared Kuhns got a forfeit win at 125, Tyson McDuffy and Blake Shalbert got back-to-back major decision wins at 133 and 141. Timmy Sparks earned a 19-1 tech fall win at 149 and Robbie Fleming followed with a win by forfeit. Jesse Rocco earned a quick win by fall at 165 as he put Kyle York on his back in a mere 34 seconds. Fourth-ranked Frankie Krauss registered a 22-5 tech fall at 184 and fellow senior Jesse Huber earned a 16-6 major decision win for the Spartans 197 pounds.
Against SUNY-Oswego, Kuhns got the Spartans started off with a forfeit win at 125. Senior Dylan Nuttall made it 10-0 York with a 13-3 major decision at 133. Senior Greg Warner picked up a 5-4 win at 149 as the Spartans led 13-3 through four weight classes. The Lakers earned wins at 157 and 165 to cut York's lead to 13-11. The Spartans responded by ripping off four wins over the final four weight classes to cruise to the win. Joe Sindoni earned 2-0 win at 174 to get the run started. Krauss posted a 6-3 win at 184 and he was followed by pinfall wins by Hasan Alic at 197 and Thomas Tabatneck at heavyweight.
In the win over Williams, the Spartans found themselves down early as a McDuffy win at 133 was sandwiched by Williams wins at 125 and 141. Warner earned an 8-0 major decision at 149 to put the Green and White back on top. The Ephs recorded at win at 157 to take an 11-9 win midway through the match. Again, the bottom half of the Spartan lineup responded with five straight wins to allow York an easy win. Rocco got the Spartans started with a tough 6-4 win at 165. Sindoni posted a win by pin at 174 and Krauss followed with a pin of his own at 184. Alic and Tabatneck each earned pin fall wins to close out the scoring and complete the 3-0 day for York.

The Spartans will face the winner of the Messiah/Wisconsin-Stevens Point match in the tournament semifinals on Saturday morning at 10:30 am. The winner of that match faces the winner of the other semifinal in the tournament championship at 1:30 pm. The two semifinal losers face off in the third-place match, also at 1:30 pm.
