CAMDEN, N.J. – The York College wrestling squad closed out the 2017 portion of their schedule with a 33-7 exhibition win at Camden County College on Friday night in Camden, N.J.
The match is the final December date of competition for the Spartans as York prepares to go into final exams next week.
How It Happened:
• The Spartans raced out to a commanding lead as the Green and White won the first six weight classes to push out to an early 24-0 lead. Brendan McDonough opened the match with a 10-3 win in the 125-pound bout. Trevor Sones pushed the score to 7-0 with a 13-5 major decision win at 133 pounds.
• Eric Schreck made it 10-0 with an 8-1 win in the 141-pound match. Junior All-American Greg Warner earned five team points for York with a 17-2 tech fall at the 5:41 mark of the 149-pound bout. Eric Hutchinson continued his strong freshman campaign with a win by fall at the 4:57 mark of the 157-pound match to make it 21-0 York. Sophomore Jackson Drum earned a hard fought 4-2 victory over Dominick DeMarco in the 165-pound match.
• Camden got wins in two of the next three weight classes. Junior Frankie Krauss split up the two Cougars' winners as he was victorious at 184-pounds. Krauss edged Juan Ramos 7-5 as York led 27-7 heading into the final bout. Senior John Shorter concluded the match with a win via a pin as he put Matt comely on his back in just 1:12 of the match to finish off the 33-7 win.
The Spartans finished the fall semester 1-1 in dual meet matches … York had a second place finish to open the season at the Ned McGinley Invitational … York finished fifth of 17 at their highly competitive New Standard Invitational … junior Greg Warner goes to the break with 14 wins while Eric Hutchinson has earned 10 wins at 157 pounds … sophomore Jackson Drum leads the squad with 16 wins at 165 pounds … junior Frankie Krauss is right behind Drum with 15 wins while heavyweights Stefanos Karpontinis (13 wins) and John Shorter (10) have also reached double figures in victories … senior captain David Keith is the other Spartan who has reached double figures in wins with 11 victories at 165 pounds.
York returns to action on Friday, January 12 when they participate in the Budd Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming College.
