YORK, Pa. – The #30 York College wrestling team completed a second consecutive undefeated weekend as the Spartans compiled a 3-0 record with wins over Rowan College at Gloucester County, Camden County College and PSU-Mont Alto on Saturday afternoon inside Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
York is now 19-4 in dual matches this season and is currently riding a seven-match winning streak.
John Shorter (Lancaster, Pa. / Manheim Township) continued to his dominance as he racked up three more pin falls on the day. Shorter now has seven pin falls in seven consecutive dual matches.
#30 York 36 – Rowan College at Gloucester County 9
The Spartans jumped out to a 14-0 lead through the first three bouts as Lake Laughman (New Oxford, Pa. / New Oxford) received a forfeit at 125, Ryan Flynn (Newtown Square Pa. / Marple Newtown) earned a technical fall at 133 by a score of 21-6 and Chase Colley (Glen Allen, Va. / Hermitage) picked up a 6-4 decision at 141.
The Spartans surrendered six points to the Road Runners as they lost two close battles at 149 and 165, but York earned those points back as George Baker (Gap, Pa. / Pequea Valley) received a forfeit at 157.
A trio of Spartans claimed victories to finish out the match as Tyler Rhoads (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) earned a 13-4 major decision at 174, Nick Zak (Jackson, N.J. / Jackson Liberty) claimed a 7-1 decision at 184 and Shorter scored a third-period pin fall at 197.
#30 York 57 – Camden CC 0
York took a 30-0 lead through the first five bouts due to four Camden forfeits and a pin fall by Jeffrey Walker (Bristow, Va. / Brentsville) in 54 seconds at 133.
The Spartans continued to pile on the points and rack up the pins as Austin Barley (York, Pa. / Spring Grove), Brett Secor (Pompton Lakes, N.J. / Pompton Lakes), Rhoads and Shorter each scored first-period pins.
Heavyweight wrestler Cody Dooley (Pennsville, N.J. / Pennsville Memorial) closed out the Spartan rout with a 9-3 decision.
#30 York 45 – PSU-Mont Alto 9
The Spartans received back-to-back forfeits at 125 and 133 before producing back-to-back first-period pin falls by Joseph Ramsel (Parkton, Md. / Hereford) at 141 and John Allenson (Glenside, Pa. / Germantown Academy) at 149.
Baker continued the Spartan success as he took a 7-3 decision at 157.
PSU-Mont Alto earned nine points with wins at 165 and 174, but two pin falls by Zak at 184 and Shorter at 197, combined with a forfeit at 285 secured the win for York.
The Spartans will take on Penn College on Friday, January 30th inside the friendly confines of Charles Wolf Gymnasium.
