WAYNESBURG, Pa – The York wrestling team (0-3) faced off in a tri-meet against Waynesburg (1-2) and Mercyhurst (2-0). York fell in both matches in a tough match-up.
Facing Waynesburg, the Spartans fell 24-15. Ryan Flynn (Newtown Square Pa. / Marple Newtown) was able to get the first points for York as he earned a 6-1 decision over Crivelli. The freshman was able to secure his first collegiate victory with the decision. At 157, Adam Kritzer (Herndon, Pa. / Line Mountain) worked his opponent into the second period and then secured his first pin on the year. The sophomore was able to pin his opponent in 4:32. Zach Coleman (Belcamp, Md. / Harford Technical) was the last scorer for the Spartans, where he wrestled at 197. Coleman came out and was able to secure a pin over Jennings in the first period. Coleman dominated quickly and nabbed his pin in just 55 seconds.
Facing Mercyhust, the Spartans wrestled valiantly, but fell 32-9. Nicholas Zak (Jackson, N.J. / Jackson Liberty) picked up his first win of the season with an injury default. At 149 pounds, York junior, John Allenson (Glenside, Pa. / Germantown Academy), wrestled a great match. Allenson was able to capture a 10-6 victory over Miller of Mercyhurst.
The matches were hard fought and show promise for York as the season rolls on, and the Spartans look to ramp up training. The Spartans will continue their season at the Mount Union Duals in Alliance Ohio on Saturday, November 23.
