CEDAR RAPIDS, Ia. – York College wrestling senior Vinny Pisani (Orange, Ca./El Modena) closed out his career as an All-American with a fourth-place finish at the NCAA DIII National Championships in Cedar Rapids, Ia. on Saturday.
Pisani lost his first match against Greg Sanders from Concordia early Saturday morning. He fell 4-2 in a tough battle. Later in the day, Pisani earned a 14-3 major decision win over Concordia-Moorhead's Jacob Long. The win helped Pisani move into the third place match.
In his final matchup, Pisani wrestled a strong Robert Diema from Cortland and fell 9-3. Despite a tough day, Pisani finished fourth, with his first All-American honors. He is the 19th Spartans to earn All-American honors under head coach Tom Kessler's guidance. Pisani ends his first and final season as a Spartan with an overall record of 30-5.
The 2012-13 campaign for the York wrestling squad is now officially complete. The Spartans now bid farewell to seniors Pisani, Kyle Minogue (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place), and Salvatore DiSimone (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches), as well as coach Kessler.
Team standings will be determined at the conclusion of the championships later this evening.
