Spartans Post 4-0 Mark at North/South Duals

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The #12 York College wrestling put together an outstanding performance Saturday as they registered a 4-0 mark at the North/South Duals hosted by Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa. The Spartans, returning from Christmas break in fine style, bested Wesleyan 30-6, #20 Stevens 29-12, U.S. Coast Guard Academy 47-0, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy 38-9. Those four triumphs improve the Spartan mark to 12-2 overall, including a current nine-match winning streak.

Senior captain George Saliba notched quite possibly York's most impressive performance of the day as he won each of his four matches as three came by way of pinfall. Following a 5-1 decision against Wesleyan, the Spartan grabbed each of his next three bouts with pinfalls at 1:12, 2:51, and 2:35. With those triumphs, Saliba improves to a stellar 20-3 this season.

Fellow senior captain Alex Martocello secured four individual triumphs to help lead the Green and White. The #2-ranked wrestler at his weight-class, Martocello collected two pinfalls, in a combined time of 4:36, while securing his other two wins by way of a pair of close decisions, 3-2 against Wesleyan and 5-3 against USMMA. Those victories push the senior's incredible 2011-2012 record to a more-than-impressive 21-1.

At 125 pounds, Joey Giaccio went 4-0 in his first North/South Duals. Two of those triumphs came by way of forfeit victory, however his other two wins came courtesy of a 2:35 pinfall against Wesleyan and a 13-0 major decision against Stevens. The outstanding rookie now sports at 14-3 mark for the year.

Chris Albright, who is currently the #2-ranked wrestler at 141, snagged a trio of wins as he moves to 9-0 on the season. Albright provided numerous bonus points through his three bouts, recording two pinfalls and a technical fall.

Matt Heisey, the Green and White's third senior captain, put together a 3-0 record as York's 174-pound wrestler. He collected a 7-4 decision against Wesleyan before following up that effort with an 11-1 major decision against Stevens. Returning in the Spartans' final bout against USMMA, Heisey secured a tight 2-0 win to move to 13-6 on the year.

The Spartans will look to continue their current nine-match winning streak as they travel to the Budd Whitehill Duals next Friday and Saturday. Wrestling action in Williamsport, Pa. begins on January 13 at 9:00 am.
