Gugliotti, Minogue Lead Spartans to Triumph over Gettysburg

YORK, Pa. – Chris Gugliotti and Kyle Minogue each recorded pinfall triumphs as the #22 York College wrestling team put together a solid 34-7 triumph over visiting Gettysburg Wednesday evening in York. The Spartans improve to 6-2 on the season while the Bullets fall to 1-1.

One of York's most impressive victories came from Gugliotti at 149 pounds. Coming off a third-place effort at the New Standard Corporation Invitational and looking to make a statement, Gugliotti proved aggressive early in his match. That early work proved fruitful as he pinned his Gettysburg counterpart just 46 seconds into the bout. With the win, the Spartan junior improves to a strong 16-3 on the year.

Minogue, who finished second at the New Standard, also recorded a pinfall win for the Green and White. His six-point triumph at 197 pounds came just 1:17 into the bout. Minogue put Gettysburg's Anton Serhan to his back finishing the match shortly after to move to 11-5 for his junior campaign.

At 184 pounds, #1 Alex Martocello secured a 14-4 major decision. Toward the end of the match, the senior captain gained a vast majority of his points on repeated takedowns to garner the major and his 15th victory of the season.

Joey Giaccio gave York an early 3-0 lead with his 9-2 win at 125 pounds while Landry Badman added three more to the Spartan ledger with his 8-3 victory at 141.

Trent Bond's work at 165 pounds resulted in a 6-1 triumph as he ups his season mark to 10-5. George Saliba, another senior captain, finished off the match with a 5-3 victory at 285. Saliba improves his 2011-12 record to a solid 14-3.

Matt Heisey, York's third senior captain, fell just short of picking up a victory for the Green and White in his 174-pound bout. Down 5-3 in the third period, Heisey recorded a two-point takedown late in the match. Unfortunately for the Spartan, Gettysburg's Zach Thomson recorded the final point with an escape.

The Spartans return to action on Saturday, December 10, as they are slated to travel to #11 Wilkes for a trio of matches. York takes on the host Colonels, Delaware Valley, and Muhlenberg beginning at 11:00 am.
