YORK, Pa. – York College wrestling All-American Alex Martocello has received a unique opportunity this summer as he has been invited to train in the Greco-Roman style of wrestling at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Col.
"I was so excited when I got the letter (inviting me to the Olympic Training Center) I immediately called my coaches here in York and told them, to be honest they sounded just as excited as me!," Martocello said. "All they could say was go for it, and it's an incredible opportunity. So soon after that I contacted the World Team Coach Ike Anderson and set up my trip the training center for the July training camp."
Martocello headed out to Colorado on July 5 and is slated to return home on July 14. While there, the Spartan, who is heading into his senior campaign with the Green and White, will get to train with some of the country's top wrestlers as he strives to prepare for next season.
"After the past season was over, all I could think about is how I was going to step it up for the next year and get better," Martocello said. "And when I received the letter I knew that this was the perfect opportunity to do exactly that. I am beyond excited to go out there and learn from the best in the country and world, and to just learn as much as possible and get better every single day I'm out there!"
York head coach Tom Kessler echoes Martocello's excitement and knows this is a great opportunity for the Spartan All-American.
"[This is a] great opportunity and experience for Alex as he prepares for his senior season at York," Kessler said. "[It's] exciting for Alex to get this invitation as he sets his goals and sites on moving up the All-American podium this season."
