KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The #15 York College wrestling squad suffered a 31-9 defeat Friday evening at Division II Kutztown. With the loss, the Spartans fall to 19-5-1 on the season while the Golden Bears, who were previously ranked this season, improve to 9-10.
Despite the defeat, the Green and White did pick up a trio of individual triumphs. At 141 pounds, sophomore Chris Albright, who is currently ranked #3 in his weight class for Division III, snagged a 3-0 win. Albright, who bested JuJu Drummond improves to a sparkling 28-1 on the season.
Junior Matt Heisey recorded York's second win of the evening, as he defeated Eric Sergent at 174 pounds. Heisey registered his 20th win of the season, a career high, with a tight 3-2 decision.
The Spartans' third win came from 197-pound junior George Saliba. Currently ranked #10 at 197, Saliba procured his career-best 19th triumph of the 2010-2011 season with a close 3-1 decision over Giovanni Ortiz.
Kutztown's team victory over the Spartans Friday snaps York's six-match winning streak. The Green and White remain two wins shy of their program record 21 triumphs during the 2002-2003 campaign.
York returns to action on Tuesday, February 15. The Spartans are slated to travel to nearby Millersville, a Division I wrestling program, in a 7:00 pm tilt.
