YORK, Pa. - Sophomore wrestler Chris Albright has been selected as the latest Spartan Athlete-of-the-Week after posting two solid victories for the Green and White last Saturday against Shippensburg and Thaddeus Stevens. This marks the third time this season that Albright has been chosen for the honor.
Albright started his day with a victory that would prove the deciding factor in York's tight 16-15 triumph over Shippensburg. Following a pair of Red Raider wins to open the match, Albright picked up a major decision victory over Simon Rice to get the Spartans on the board with four points. Those four points would prove crucial to York's eventual win as each of the nine other matches were by decision, as the Spartans slipped by Shippensburg by a single point.
Against Thaddeus Stevens, Albright wasted little time in capturing his 27th triumph of the season. The sophomore pinned Matthew Rust just 1:45 into their 141-pound bout as he helped the Green and White to a commanding 51-6 victory.
For the season, Albright currently sport a sparkling 27-1 record and is ranked #3 in Division III according to the most recent NWCA rankings.
Albright and the #17 Spartans will look to extend their five-match winning streak when they travel to New York on Saturday, February 5. There, the York squad will face host Hunter and #22 Elizabethtown beginning at 1:00 pm.
