#12 Spartans Roll to 38-3 Triumph at King's
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The #12 York wrestling team posted an impressive 38-3 triumph at King's on Friday evening, improving their season mark to 17-4-1. The Spartans' 17 victories this season is their highest total since recording 20 wins during the 2005-2006 campaign.
The Green and White quickly jumped out to a significant lead, as their advantage reached 26-0 after 165 pounds, en route to capturing their 17th win of the season
Junior 184-pound Alex Martocello continued his current hot streak as he won his eighth-straight match. The Spartan captain put together a quality 17-0 technical fall triumph as he improves his personal record to 21-3 on the year.
The Spartans received quality matches from a trio of rookies as Chuck Glatz, Victor Signorelli, and Danny Miller each posted wins in their respective bouts. Glatz, who has seen tremendous mat time as a freshman, tallied a 10-6 decision at 133 pounds to notch his 16th win of the year. Signorelli captured a 9-5 win at 141 while Miller, in the 157-pound match, recorded a 17-1 technical fall.
Between that run of rookies, 149-pounds Chris Gugliotti upped his season mark to 17-8 as he bested Chris Mazzocchi in an 8-5 decision.
In the heaviest bouts, York's Kyle Minogue and Kossi Fiavi registered a pair of solid wins. At 197 pounds, Minogue edged Peter Dwyer by a tight 7-6 result before Fiavi posted a 14-3 major decision at 285.
Senior Jerrid Hartman (125) and freshman Lucas Bragg (157) each picked up forfeit triumphs for the Spartans.
With a solid week away from competition, the Green and White return to action on Saturday, January 29. York is slated to host Thaddeus Stevens and Division II Shippensburg beginning at 12:00 pm in the Spartans' final home event of the 2010-2011 campaign.
